U of R one of four Canadian Universities to make the Top 150 under 50 years old in the world

News Release Release Date: April 11, 2016 12:00 p.m.

Times Higher Education started a separate ranking for the top universities under 50 in 2012 and this year the University of Regina was added to the list.

“This recognition is a positive indicator that the University of Regina is competitive with similarly young institutions in providing world class teaching, research, international opportunities and knowledge transfer benefits,” says Dr. Thomas Chase, Provost and Vice-President (Academic), University of Regina. “The rankings are one measure by which we can assess our performance against our global peers but our focus remains on achieving our strategic plan priorities of student success, research impact and commitment to our communities, and overarching priorities of indigenization and sustainability.”

The rankings are based on the same 13 performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings - but give less weight to reputation.
The average age of a university ranked in the top 200 of the World University Rankings is 213 years.  Times Higher Education started a separate rating for universities under 50 years old in recognition that younger institutions didn’t have the hundreds of years to develop their reputation, deeply loyal and successful alumni, or amass the property and wealth that institutions such as Oxford, Harvard, Yale, and Stanford have.
