The University of Regina Alumni Association (URAA) will honour five professors with Excellence Awards on June 15, 2016. This year’s recipients are:

  • Dr. Alec Couros (Education), who receives the University of Regina Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Teaching.
  • Dr. David Gerhard (Computer Science), who receives the University of Regina Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Teaching.
  • Dr. Raymond Blake (History), who receives the University of Regina Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Research.
  • Dr. Gordon Asmundson (Psychology), who receives the University of Regina Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Graduate Research Mentorship.
  • Prof. Rosalyn Kelsey (Kinesiology and Health Studies), who receives the University of Regina Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Service.
Dr. Vianne Timmons, University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor, noted that the five recipients are examples of exceptional leadership, vision, and dedication.

“These five faculty members represent the best of our teachers, researchers and University citizens,” said Timmons “I am proud of the quality of their contributions to the University. One of our greatest strengths is our faculty, who make it their life’s work to inspire our students in the hallways, classrooms, and laboratories.”

All of the award winners this year share the common trait of reaching across traditional boundaries to do their work. While some of the recipients conduct interdisciplinary research within the University, others routinely partner with clinicians, public policy-makers, and members of the community. In each case, these scholars find practical applications for their scholarship, working to improve the health and wellbeing of our local, national, and international communities.

The Alumni Association’s Excellence Awards are awarded each year since 1990, together with the University of Regina Alumni Association. The Awards celebrate the achievements of the University’s most accomplished faculty in the areas of teaching, research, service, and graduate student mentorship.
