Student is one of Canada's emerging artists

Student Simon Fuh is in some exclusive company.
The fourth year visual arts student has been chosen as one of 20 of Canada’s best up-and-coming artists.
Fuh was selected from hundreds of applicants in the juried competition. As a result, his work will be on display at Artists Project 2016, a popular contemporary art fair in Toronto, February 18 – 21.
“I was in class, checking my email when I found out. I ran downstairs and broke the news to my professor Risa Horowitz,” recalls Fuh. “This is an amazing opportunity.”
As one of the “Untapped Emerging Artists,” Fuh will have his own space at the art fair in Toronto where his work will be exposed to a national audience.
“It’s a huge professional opportunity and signifies my status as an emerging artist in Canada,” says Fuh who grew up in Regina.
Fuh has embraced a range of media; photo, painting and sculpture.
“I often approach personal subject matters with a touch of irony and humour. I’m interested in telling stories that are challenging but still things that people can relate to,” says Fuh.
His work is being recognized on campus as well.
Fuh has been been awarded a place on the Dean’s List and has earned the Alice MacRedie Scholarship, the Kiyomi Annette Shoyama Bursary, the Academic Silver Scholarship and the Premier’s Centennial Arts Scholarship.
Most recently, his work was featured, along with other students, in the Fifth Parallel Gallery, at the U of R. He’s also shown at the BAM Gallery in Saskatoon and will be part of the annual Fourth Year BFA Exhibition at the Mackenzie Art Gallery this spring.
“We have a really special program here at the U of R. I’ve had amazing support from all of my professors and classmates. It’s a really positive community on campus,” says Fuh, who will receive his Bachelor of Fine Arts this spring, with hopes of joining a Master of Fine Arts program.
