New research magazine launches today

The University of Regina boasts a diverse research enterprise, and now these research successes will be highlighted in a new magazine.

Today the University launched Discourse, a research magazine that focuses on the impact that University researchers are making in the lives of Canadians, as well as those around the world.

“Our researchers are innovative leaders and the research being conducted on our campus is cutting-edge, high-impact work,” says Dr. David Malloy, Vice-President (Research) at the University of Regina. “Discourse is a great vehicle for us to communicate our research accomplishments to our on-campus and off-campus community members and stakeholders.”

The new, bi-annual publication will feature research projects by faculty, staff and students.

“Our University scholars are working on many diverse projects, and Discourse aims to capture the breadth and depth of this work,” says Discourse editor, Krista Baliko.  

Baliko says that the first issue of the magazine features an array of research projects, including the work researchers are doing to understand, reduce, and control the spread of infectious disease caused by antibiotic resistant microbes; a research project that engages with various stakeholders across the country to boost understandings of and better supports for those living with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder (FASD); and a story about the implementation of an exercise program that has helped Saskatchewan seniors to age in place longer, and live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

“My hope is that this magazine encourages conversations about the University’s outstanding research that lasts beyond the first-read. Discourse is about showcasing our researchers but also about engaging with our larger community,” says Baliko.
