Awards for first year students at La Cité universitaire francophone

Student success was celebrated when La Cité universitaire francophone at the University of Regina held an awards ceremony for first-year students enrolled in programs offered in French.

The event was hosted by La Cité, in partnership with CBC/Radio-Canada Saskatchewan.

Brooke George of Bellegarde, Saskatchewan, was award the Beaubien scholarship, valued at $750. This scholarship goes to a Saskatchewan high school graduate with French-Canadian heritage, and is based on academic excellence, community involvement and extracurricular activities. Brooke is enrolled in the  Baccalauréat en éducation française, elementary education.

Three students received $5,000 awards from L’Association des collèges et des universitiés de la francohponie canadienne (ACUFC):

  • Annabel Asselin, who attended Dr. Martin Leboldus High School in Regina, is enrolled in Baccalauréat en éducation française, elementary education.
  • Jessica Rohatynsky, who graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Yorkton, is studying in the Baccalauréat en éducation française, secondary education program with a minor in arts education.
  • Piper Stewart, a graduate of Grenall High School in Balgonie, is enrolled in the certificate in French as a second language program.
As well, two students were honoured as recipients of La Cité Graduate Studies Award, a scholarship of $5,000 awarded to students in either the master of arts in French or the Maîtrise en éducation française: Erika MacNaughton, who teaches in Saskatoon, and Marie-Josée LeBel, who teaches in Swift Current.
