News Release Release Date: January 11, 2017 10:05 a.m.

Today the University of Regina launched its five-year Strategic Research Plan 2016-2021 (SRP). Closely aligned with the institutions overall strategic plan, the SRP aims to guide the research endeavours of the campus until 2021.

Dr. David Malloy, Vice-President (Research), led the group who designed the SRP, and says he is proud of the work that went into its development.

“This plan is the product of outstanding contributions and commitment from the committee members and the feedback and engagement of the University of Regina campus community as a whole,” says Malloy. “Our Strategic Research Plan will enrich our research community.”

The plan identifies six main strategic research objectives to be achieved over the next five years:

  • Strengthen support required for students and researchers to deliver high impact outcomes.
  • Advance the profile and awareness of research successes locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.
  • Increase research partnerships and projects with First Nations and Métis people, communities and organizations, including the First Nations University of Canada.
  • Develop and implement processes, procedures and tools to help ensure the University’s strategic research plan is actualized.
  • Increase research revenues.
  • Facilitate and support high quality research with dissemination practices including public engagement.

Malloy says that the SRP also renews the institutions commitment to the University’s five research clusters, graduate students, Indigenization, and the balanced portfolio of research impact.

“This balanced portfolio recognizes the diversity of impact to which our scholars contribute – from traditional methods such as papers, books, and grants to social, cultural, economic, and policy impact.”

Malloy also says that implementing the plan will strengthen the institution’s rich research enterprise and make the University of Regina a leader locally, nationally and internationally.
