Making it easier to transfer to the U of R from Sask Polytechnic

The University of Regina and Saskatchewan Polytechnic are expanding their agreement that allows students to transfer credit from a Sask Polytech certificate or diploma to a U of R degree.

Representatives signed a transfer credit agreement that spans seven Sask Polytech programs and two U of R schools.  

The two post-secondary institutions have maintained a robust academic partnership for more than 20 years.

Sask Polytech serves 28,000 students at campuses in Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Regina, and Saskatoon, and through extensive distance education opportunities.

After earning a certificate or diploma at Sask Polytech, graduates who meet entry requirements will be able to transfer into an undergraduate degree program. As a result, students will be able to graduate with both a certificate or diploma and a U of R degree after four years of study.

“Our formal—and longstanding—transfer agreements with Saskatchewan Polytechnic have proven extremely beneficial for students, from both institutions,” says Dr. Thomas Chase, the U of R’s Provost and Vice-President (Academic) told the guests at the signing ceremony. “Together, we’re graduating much-needed professionals in Healthcare and Sport and Recreation.”

Today’s agreement means graduates of Sask Polytech’s Therapeutic Recreation diploma or Recreation and Community Development diploma can transfer into the third year of the U of R's Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Studies (BSRS) to continue their education. Up to 60 credits can be transferred to complete the BSRS-Sport and Recreation Management program or a BSRS-Therapeutic Recreation program.

Additionally, Sask Polytech students looking to graduate with a U of R Bachelor of Health Studies can transfer up to 60 credits earned from one of the following certificate or diploma programs:

•    Dental Hygiene certificate

•    Health Information Management diploma

•    Advanced Care Paramedic diploma

•    Cytotechnology diploma

•    Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technician diploma

Students can graduate with a Bachelor of Health Studies degree from U of R’s Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies, and the First Nations University of Canada, one of the University’s three federated colleges.
