Abstract

In recent years, tremendous effort has been expended on subatomic physics, with the building of new laboratories to better understand the natural laws governing the universe. Jefferson Lab, one of these Laboratories in the United States, contains four experimental halls and aims to explore some of the least understood aspects of our known physical laws. The new experimental hall in Jefferson Lab, Hall D, will house a new experiment called GlueX. A critical component of GlueX is a custom-designed device comprised of layers of optical fibres and lead sheets, which will detect subatomic particles. For this purpose, GlueX will be using a new-generation photo sensor, which also has wide applications in medical physics.
