Abstract

Globalization has given us a world where borders and boundaries cease to exist. This includes the boundaries of the human body, as consumer demand for the purchase of human body parts for transplantation rises and these parts are exchanged across borders, from developing to developed nations. In her talk, “The body as theatre: What can performance tell us about the global trafficking in human organs?”, University of Regina English professor Natalie Meisner will explore how theatre can shed light on the body’s integrity and our sense of self. Meisner is currently writing a full-length play, Pink Sugar, that addresses some of the issues around organ trafficking.
