    Abstract
Dr. Barry Pittendrigh’s commitment to ensuring the results of his research got into the hands of the people who needed it — farmers in sub-Saharan West Africa — means people all over the world now learn from animations on their cellphones. Pittendrigh BSc ’90, an entomology professor and researcher at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, heads a large research program aimed at finding solutions to pest problems in cowpea, a legume crop that is an important source of protein for some of the poorest people in West Africa.
