Abstract

The University of Regina campus community is being asked to help young Austin Zerr. Austin, age 4, was born with a rare eye disease, Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), a disease that unfortunately has no treatment options in Canada. “He recognizes mostly everybody by sound of voice,” said Ian Zerr, Austin’s father. “He has no sense of what a television is. He can’t see it. The motions are too fast. He likes books. He likes things read to him but he can’t look at the pictures or anything like that. There used to be times that his visual impairment got him frustrated, but he's always finding ways to improve and work with the vision he has. His older sister, Emma, sure helps him out a lot.”
