The search for a new President for the University of Regina has officially started! With Dr. Thomas Chase installed as the University of Regina's interim President and Vice-Chancellor, the University of Regina's Board of Governors has launched the process to find the University of Regina's ninth President and Vice-Chancellor.

The Governance and Nominations Committee of the Board of Governors has met several times - virtually, of course -  to prepare for the search and has undertaken the selection of a search consultant and drafting terms of reference for the presidential Search Advisory Committee.

Following a national request for proposals and competition, the firm Boyden was selected to assist with the search. Boyden brings strong credentials including past successful university presidential and vice-presidential searches, including our current search for a full-term Vice-President (Research).

A Search Advisory Committee comprised of faculty, staff, students, and alumni has been struck to ensure participation and input from a broad cross-section of our university community. Committee members will be introduced over the coming days.

"The role of the President is vital to the reputation, academic and operational success of the University and our search process has been thoughtfully designed to welcome input from many individuals and teams as, together, we seek the best candidate for this important role," says Roger Brandvold, Chair, University of Regina Board of Governors.

Community members, students, faculty, and staff will have the opportunity to provide input into the creation of a position profile for the position of president by completing an online survey. This input will assist the Search Advisory Committee in determining the skills, qualities, and values most desired in the next President and Vice-Chancellor of the U of R. Those interested in participating are asked to complete and submit the survey by June 5, 2020. The Presidential Search - Web Consultation survey can be found here: https://www.uregina.ca/presidential-search/search-process/consultation.html.

To ensure that all members of the University and wider communities are informed and can participate, the University has created the Presidential Search site. The site is home to details about the search process, the terms of reference for the Search Advisory Committee, the consultation survey, and a Frequency Asked Questions section. Presidential Search updates will be posted to the site on a regular basis and, once completed, the position description for the University's next President and Vice-Chancellor. The Presidential Search site can be found here: https://www.uregina.ca/presidential-search/.

Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our campus community, the search for a new President is always an exciting time in the life of a university. The process is expected to last at least 12 months and the hope is to have a new President in place by July 2021.
